New Employee Induction Checklist – Document Extract

This induction checklist is to ensure employees meet their responsibility of care for the health and safety of themselves and others in the workplace and cooperate with the employer in its health and safety initiatives.


Accepting their legal and accountable duty of care obligations regarding;

  • Working safely
  • Taking care
  • Looking after work colleagues and others
  • Following safe work practices
  • Using personal protective equipment
  • Cooperating with management in its OHS initiatives
  • Participate in the consultative process
  • Report all accident and incidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, acts and omissions in a timely manner to their supervisor
  • Persons are not to interfere with or misuse things done or provided for health and safety
  • Follow all reasonable and lawful instructions and ask questions when in doubt about any aspect of their job that impacts on the health and safety
  • Know what numbers to call, and the evacuation procedure, in case of an emergency and/or evacuation
  • Help to maintain housekeeping standards so work areas, amenities, walkways, access and exit points are clean and unobstructed by refuse
  • Not deliberately introduce and or use any actor omission to create health and safety hazards and risks
  • Not be affected by alcohol, illegal drugs, or prescription or over-the-counter medications, to compromise their own, or any other person’s safety, at work
  • All staff are responsible for complying with all occupational health and safety instructions and must take action to avoid, eliminate or minimize risk to themselves and others
  • Employees must promptly report every newly identified hazard, near miss, incident and accident in the workplace
